“Danthapala is the herb I would pick for a scaling scalp, and neem is the one everybody already trusts. Use the oil on the scalp and not the hair — people put it on the lengths where it does nothing except make washing harder. Leave it long enough to matter, and wash it out with something that will not strip the scalp again. That is why the shampoo exists. Give it a month.”
The everyday version of our Danthapala Urukku Velichenna.
It carries the same classical preparation — danthapala and neem rendered into coconut oil — but at a much lower proportion, extended with cold-pressed coconut oil. That makes it lighter, gentler and considerably cheaper, and it is what turns a preparation you use twice a week into an oil you can use whenever you wash your hair.
Wrightia tinctoria is the herb Kerala reaches for when a scalp is scaling. Neem sits alongside it, as it has in Indian scalp preparations for as long as there have been any.
Made to be used with our Triphala Shampoo. The oil works on the scalp between washes; the shampoo cleans without stripping what the oil has done. Either works alone, but they were formulated as a pair.
Made at our Kozhikode unit in small batches. If you want the preparation at full strength, that is the Danthapala Urukku Velichenna.
A free consultation comes with every order.
Virgin coconut oil, Cold-pressed coconut oil, Wrightia tinctoria (Danthapala), Azadirachta indica (Neem)
Part the hair and apply to the scalp itself rather than the lengths — this is a scalp oil, and hair does not flake. Massage in with the fingertips, not the nails. Leave it at least half an hour; overnight is better if the flaking is stubborn. Wash out with Triphala Shampoo. Two or three times a week. For external use only.
Scalps that flake, scale or feel tight, for regular use. Pairs with our Triphala Shampoo. For a stronger preparation, see our Danthapala Urukku Velichenna. A free consultation is available before you buy.
For external use only. Avoid the eyes; if it gets in, rinse with clean water. Patch test behind the ear before first use, particularly if you have reacted to neem before. Stop using it if the scalp becomes sore, weeping or more irritated. Scaling that spreads beyond the hairline, or that bleeds when lifted, is worth having looked at rather than oiling. Coconut oil solidifies below about 24 degrees. Stand the bottle in warm water; nothing is wrong with it. Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight.
